Transformation Golf

Mini golf on a coordinate grid: every shot is a transformation of the ball (a translation, reflection, rotation or enlargement), and the ball jumps to its image.

Every shot is a transformation of the ball: build it on the right, then press Play shot (or Enter). The ball jumps to its image. Read the coordinates from the numbers round the edge, and land exactly on the hole.

  • The ball lands on its image: what is in between doesn’t matter, only where it lands.
  • Water or out of bounds: a penalty stroke, and the ball goes back to where you played it from.
  • A wall: the ball bounces back to where you played it from (the stroke still counts).
  • A bunker: the ball stays in the sand, but splashing out costs a penalty stroke.
  • A windmill turns its sails 45° after every shot, and a gate opens or shuts: a ball landing on a sail, the hub or a shut gate bounces back like a wall.
  • The centre of a rotation or enlargement must be on the course (grass or sand).
  • Score for a hole = strokes. A hint costs 1 stroke. After 10 strokes: pick up (+5) or carry on; at 20 you’re picked up (+5).
